Jiskra Canoe Club
was founded on April 16, 1949. Among founding members of
the Club were families of Fryd, Bilicz, Kobera.
This is mentioned to
show that this sport has a long tradition in our
town. No wonder, that among organizers of the World Cup
Canoe Marathon are again names Fryd, Bilicz,
Kobera, Lunacek, Planansky, etc. The present members
inherited from their parents a beautiful sport,
canoe facilities and a message to pass these values
to
their children. This is the reason why among competitors are
familiar names of people who are actually grand and
grand-grandchildren of the Jiskra Canoe
Club founders.
Nowadays, our Club
has over eighty members, racing team has 25
competitors primarily in youth categories. Conditions for
water sports are perfect and this sport is one of the most
popular in our town. Smooth water which does not freeze in
the Winter, Canoe Club facilities located conveniently in
down town area. We are also happy with the achieved racing
results. Presently, our young racers are among the best
six teams in the Czech Republic. We believe that we
will even improve our positions and this racing event may
be one of the motivations to do it.
Formerly Jiskra
Canoe Club used to organize
the traditional South Czech 10 km
Race every year and in 1999 at the 50th anniversary of our club
foundation we started to write the history
of the annual
International Canoe Marathon instead. A successful World Cup
racing events in 1998, 1999, 2000
and 2003 may be a good reason to repeat a marathon
races in our town again.
